Home Business 36 - How To Start An Auto Tune-up Business
This home business idea is one of those recession-proof businesses opportunities that are tried, tested and profitable time and time again. It can put money in your pocket in no time at all. Cars are a universal piece of machinery - there are millions of them on the road worldwide and they all require tune-ups at regular intervals. The key to success in this kind of venture is to specialize as an auto tune-up specialist.
This business can be run from your own home with ease either on a full or part time basis. You would need a spare garage at home or a covered section in your yard. Operating a business from home has the added advantage of not getting involved with landlords and leases and having to pay rent.
Since you are just starting out, you would be doing all the work on your own. Hence no need for employees and to pay wages.
You do not need any special skills, education or training. Any current auto repair experience you may have or basic tune-up procedures you know will hold you in good stead for this business. Further, it is not required that you be qualified in order to practice as an auto tune-up spcialist. However, you should possess sound business sense and be able to get along with people.
Marketing Your Business
1. You may run ads in your local paper, perhaps in the motoring sections. An example of an ad might be as follows:
Ally Auto Tune-Ups
Fast friendly service. Low prices.
Work guaranteed.
Call Jim on: ........
2. You can also place the above ads on bullettin boards in your area.
3. Telemarketing is also very effective in getting new customers. Simply call people up, introduce yourself and your service.
4. You could also have posters or signs made up and place them on light poles, traffic poles or in the shop windows of garages and auto spares shops.
5. Having business cards printed and handing them out is also a good idea.
6. Print flyers advertising your services and employ part time students to hand them out for you at intersections.
Your Service
Basically, you will be providing a specialist auto tune-up service ie. testing/checking ignition systems, changing of plugs, points, condensors, coils. Testing and checking alternators, generators, batteries, etc.
Licensing
As long as you operate from home, you probably won't need a license. If you get along with your neighbors, don't clutter up the street with a lot of cars, do not make excessive noise, keep decent bsuiness hours and do not erect any signs, you will be okay.
Always remember that the best way to be profitable in this type of business is to offer fast, efficient service at a good price. Organize yourself, start slowly and build up a steady stream of customers.
